Omar Rodriguez-Lopez - Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fungus.
No matter how much Crystal Castles insist they're named after She-Ra's fortress and not the 1983 arcade favorite, thanks to the Atari sound chips in their keyboards, their music evokes vintage video game soundtracks -- albeit ones that have been folded, spindled, and mutilated almost past recognition. On their self-titled debut, Crystal Castles (aka Ethan Kath and Alice Glass) hurl eight-bit bleeps, bloops, and noise as relentlessly as Space Invaders marching down a screen, turning these sounds.
As a songwriter, Chip Taylor has never seemed to be able to rest on his considerable laurels. Since his return to music in 1996, he's made a series of roots music records, including those with Carrie Rodriguez and Kendel Carson, that have all been critically acclaimed. Yonkers, NY, a double-disc set, may be his most ambitious and most self-indulgent album (not that the latter's a bad thing). Nearing 70, Taylor writes a lot about the past here as he looks back on his life and times in that little.

Things Are Not All Right is the second album on Goner from the Chicago bash-and-crash pop trio CoCoComa.Comprised of husband-and-wife Bill and Lisa Roe on drums and guitar, respectively, plus Mike Fitzpatrick on bass and organ, the band is part garage, part psych pop, and all pure punk energy.Things Are Not All Right takes the catchy, spazzy push of their first album and adds depth and more realized production values without slowing down in the least..
Dubbed by the New York Times "the most lovable rapper in the world: a wounded warrior with raps to match his speeding heartbeat," Def Jam artist - and Wu-Tang Clan ironman - Ghostdini (aka Ghostface Killah) returns under a new guise in 2009 as THE WIZARD OF POETRY, his 6th Def Jam album (and 10th major label album), in which he attracts an A-list of duet partners including John Legend, Fabolous, Raheem DeVaughn, Lloyd, Estelle, and others. The new album will arrive in the physical and digital ma.
As if it hasn't been evident on earlier efforts, this disc demonstrates how Lucero, along with bands like the Hold Steady and Marah, blend together Replacements raucousness and Springsteen streetwise storytelling, and create something both familiar yet also unique. Throughout the album, Nichols spins colorful tales of lost youths ("The Devil and Maggie Chascarillo") and downtown desperadoes ("Johnny Davis") that are vividly detailed. He is also very capable at dialing down the mischievous misadv.
